Malaysia Expect To Have Easy Path To Futsal Asia 2006 Finals


KUANTAN, April 17 (Bernama) -- The national futsal squad is expected to have an easy path to the finals of the 2006 Asian Futsal Championship which will be held in Uzbekistan in June.

Team manager Hamidin Mohd Amin said Malaysia were ranked 14th in Asia and their opponents in Group A in the qualifying competition to held here from Tuesday were all ranked lower.

"Based on the current rankings of the teams, Malaysia is sure to be in the finals," he told a press conference here Monday.

The other teams in the group are Turkmenistan, which is ranked 16th, Vietnam (18), Maldives (22) and Cambodia (23).

The qualifying competition for groups A and B will be held at the Sukpa Indoor Stadium here over five days beginning Tuesday.

In Group B are South Korea, Hong Kong, Macau and Australia. The top two teams in each group automatically qualify for the finals in Uzbekistan.
