The starPETALING JAYA: The national futsal team are confident that they will clinch one of the four Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Finals berths available in the qualifiers, which begin next Tuesday in Kuantan.
Malaysia are in Group A together with Turkmenistan, Vietnam, Maldives and Cambodia. Group B comprises South Korea, Hong Kong, Macau and Australia.
The top two teams in the groups will make the cut for the Finals in Uzbekistan from May 21-28.
The FA of Malaysia (FAM) secretary general Datuk Seri Dr Ibrahim Saad said: “Looking at the groupings and the level of our national team, we should not have any problems qualifying for the Finals.
“A few players have been recruited from Johor AOB, the champions of the national futsal league. So there is a blend of old and new in the team.”
The Johor AOB players in the team are Halim Abdul Hadi, Fuad Yusof, Ahmad Hanif Sarmin and Azari Ithnain.
Dr Ibrahim called on fans in Kuantan to support the team.
