Brunei Off To Asean Futsal Challenge

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Brunei National Futsal team departed for Bangkok, Thailand yesterday to take part in the ASEAN Football Federation;(AFF) Futsal Championship, scheduled for May 2 to May 8.

Brunei, under the supervision of head coach Hj Md Rosanan bin Abdullah Samak, are grouped in Group A, together with Thailand, Timor Leste and Myanmar. Group B meanwhile consists of Cambodia, Vietnam, Indonesia and Malaysia.

Hj Md Rosanan singled out defending champions Thailand - Brunei's first opponent in the group matches as the team to beat. "Thailand are the favourites, of course, they are the defending champions," he said.

The coach was a little upset because one of his players, Md HardymanAbd Lamit, could not make the team. Still, Hj Md Rosanan managed to assemble the strongest squad possible, with a good mixture of experienced and new players.

Brunei finished third_ place in the tournament last year.

They will face Timor Leste the day after the Thailand game, followed by Myanmar the following day.
