Tranmere Women in European Futsal Success

England’s best known Futsal Club, Tranmere Victoria, saw their women’s team follow in the footsteps of the men’s team by lifting the Dynamic EuroCup in Hasselt, Belgium at the end of April.

Having only formed one year ago, under the expert guidance of coach Jay Corran, the girls have already started to prove that they can compete well with the best English teams and the established European teams in Futsal.

Two ladies teams were taken over to Belgium, both playing some superb futsal. Tranmere’s first team won every game and had only conceded one goal going into the final where they faced an accomplished Belgian side providing an exciting final for the 200 plus spectators gathered to watch the event.

With only 5 minutes to go the game seemed over with Tranmere 2 goals down, however immense spirit and grit from the team created goals for Helen Kemp and Sarah D'Arcy taking the game into a nail biting penalty shoot out where Elaine Clarke, Tranmere’s goalkeeper of the tournament provided an amazing save to win the game.

Tranmere’s second team also had a successful tournament coming 3rd overall, only losing to the Belgian finalists.

Women’s team manager Becky Rooke comments "the girls have trained very hard over the last year, showing great enthusiasm and dedication. This commitment certainly paid off for us this weekend. Everyone is looking forward to their next challenge this summer, where we are hoping to get the top ladies sides in England together for a tournament up here on the Wirral"
