Indonesia show our futsal squad the exit

BANGKOK: Last year's runner-up Malaysia failed to make the semi-finals of the Asean Football Federation (AFF) futsal tournament after they were beaten 0-2 by Indonesia in their final Group B fixture at the Hua Mak Indoor Stadium here yesterday.

Indonesia topped the group with the maximum nine points and they are joined in the semi-finals by Cambodia, who defeated Vietnam 8-6 yesterday. In the semi-finals tomorrow, Indonesia will play against Myanmar while Cambodia will take on Thailand.

Manager Hamidin Mohd Amin said that they paid the price for their opening 2-3 loss by Cambodia on Tuesday.

It was a blow for Malaysia to make an early exit. They had beaten Cambodia 9-2 in the AFC qualifying round match in Kuantan last month.

“It is over for the boys for now. We have to prepare for the Asian championship next,” said Hamidin.

The team under the charge of P. Balakrishnan will feature in the Asian championship in Uzbekistan from May 21-28.
