Futsal: Stingrays win Knock Out

Newly promoted from Third Division, Stingrays, completed their fantastic run in the Futsal Knock-Out by overcoming also First Division side Head Hunters by 8 goals to 5 in the final match played on Monday evening.

This was the first time ever that a team hailing from the lowest division has won the trophy and what's more is that Stingrays have done it in their first season ever in the Futsal competitions. Definitely, two records that will be very hard for others to match in the future.

Stingrays showed their winning intentions immediately after kick-off with two goals in the first minute. Shocked Head Hunters succeeded in their comeback and clinched the draw, but by half time Stingrays scored again for two times to conclude the first 20 minutes with a score of 4 -- 2. In the second half, Head Hunters came close to a draw several times, but the men in yellow always succeeded to score, maintaining a two goal lead and making them three in the last seconds of the match for a final score of 8 -- 5.

Stingrays reached this final after beating another Third Division side, RMF Wolves, in the semis by 3 goals to 2. In the quarter-finals they beat First Division side, King of Shaves, 5 -- 4 on penalties after the match finished in a draw. In the second round they crashed Second Division champions Net Stars with a staggering 5 -- 0, while in the first round they outclassed another First Division side, Konica Minolta Gunners, with an amazing 11 -- 2.

In their semi-final Head Hunters overcame Zurrieq Old Boys, while in the quarter-finals they beat the other team hailing from Zurrieq, Zurrieq FC. In the second round, the men in green eliminated champions Hibernians with an astounding 4 -- 1, while in the first round, after a lot of suffering against Cool Boys, a team that have previously been relegated from the second division, they managed to win on penalties.
