FUTSAL PLAYER AT THE SOCCER WORLD CUP ?

Last weeks quiz question re the Australian playing for another country identified actually THREE aussies playing at the soccer world cup . I already knew of CHRISTIAN VIERI but it was pointed out to me by someone in my own family that JOE SIMUNIC and ANTON SERIC are in the CROATIAN squad, after having declared allegiance to the country of their fathers.

One of the best games of Futsal I saw was the final of the 1995 National School titles between DARAMALLAN COLLEGE from ACT and REDBANK PLAINS from QUEENSLAND. DARAMALLAN’S star was one Joe Simunic and REDBANK’S star was KASEY WEHRMANN ,who now plays professional soccer in Norway for MOSS and was a member of the BRISBANE STRIKERS soccer grand final winning team two years later. Kasey has also played a full soccer international for Australia and represented Queensland a couple of times at the national club Futsal titles.

The two had a good tussle that game , with DARAMALLAN eventually winning( I can’t remember the score, perhaps somebody out there does ?)

Now Joe has made it to the pinnacle, playing at the soccer world cup, I’m sure everybody in Futsal wishes him well.

TRIP TO THE USA WITH UNITED AIRLINES

I have made mention of the problems we had on the Brazil tour with UNITED AIRLINES. I f you wish to read the story in full go to our website www.qldfutsal.com and read the news item WELCOME TO AMERICA. In looking back it is funny but it wasn’t at the time. It may come across as a bit sarcastic, but I’m still hurting at our treatment by this organization. God knows how they treat non paying customers, we at least had paid for our tickets.

HUMOUR

Well its confirmed that Jimmy Greaves was the substitute for England in the 1966 world cup. In those days subs were named but once the game started they couldn’t play. They only played if there was an injury or withdrawal before the game. Thanks to Fred Boylan from Canada Futsal for the answer, followed by Rick Waterworth. Rick also got all last weeks questions correct, which were:

2. WHICH CLUB HAS THE MOST PLAYERS COMPETING AT THE WORLD CUP AND WHICH LEAGUE ( Italian, Spanish, English , Scottish, etc) PROVIDES THE MOST PLAYERS TO THE WORLD CUP?
