The FA.comFutsal feast for girlsThursday, 25 May 2006Over 120 girls from across Herefordshire have taken part in the first ever, Secondary School Girls Futsal League hosted by Minster Specialist Sports College and St. Mary’s RC School.
Futsal provides a high paced, energetic, fast flowing game for spectators, whilst at the same time allowing players to be at their most creative by protecting those showing attacking flair.
Herefordshire FA Football Development Officers Paul Carpenter and Alexis Lunn hoped the league would develop the players taking part by introducing them to new skills and techniques which can be utilised in the 11-a-side game.
The League took place over several weeks with 20 teams from schools at U14 and U16 age groups across the county involved. After qualifying stages had been completed, the final took place on Monday 15 May at the Royal National College on their International Futsal Pitch used by the England Blind squad.
It is hoped next year that the League will run for U12 girls with the implementation of futsal in primary schools and secondary schools starting in September.
