TENNENTS FPL SCOTLAND - June Launch

The Tennents FPL Scotland Serie A Championship is set to start in June. Winners compete in UEFA Futsal Cup

The Tennents FPL Scotland Serie A Championship is set to start in June. Winners compete in UEFA Futsal Cup, with the first round of matches in Glasgow at the Gorbals Leisure Centre on June 17th and 18th.

Scottish futsal has taken a major boost, with the launch of the FPL Scotland Serie A. Following swiftly in the footsetps of this years launch of a national league in England, the FPL is proud to be working with the SFA north of the border as well.

With support from Tennents, as part of their Total Futsal campaign, this should help put futsal back on the map in Scotland. We've also just confirmed that the Scottish winners will take a spot in the UEFA Futsal Cup prelims, to be held in September. The FPL and SFA will host the event for UEFA. Stay tuned for details, with 3 other European teams competing for a place in the final 16.

The fixture list is yet to be decided as confirmation of the competing teams is still pending, although each of the major Scottish cities is likely to be represented.

Perth, Edinburgh and Glasgow provide the experience with Fair City Santos, Perth North Muirton, Glasgow City (who won the Tennents Total Futsal event last season as Penmans) and an Edinburgh University select side all having played in competitive Futsal competitions previously.

Glasgow Maccabi are gearing up for their assault on the European Maccabi Games in Rome next summer, whilst Inverness will be hoping to rekindle interest in the sport in the North following a couple of barren seasons since their first introduction to the game in 2004.

Aberdeen and Dundee are identified as strategic target areas for the development of the game with both cities having a fine tradition of football development and hopefully representative sides from these areas will draw attention to the fast paced nature of Futsal and provide much needed local exposure.
