Futsal: Michal Striz is Malta's first Futsal national team coach

The former coach of the Czech Futsal national team, Michal Striz has been appointed by the Malta Football Association as the first ever coach to guide a still to be created national team.

According to futsalplanet.com, an agreement on a two-year contract was reached between the MFA and Striz back in August 2005.

43 year old Striz is an ex-player who in 1994 was chosen as the best player of the Czech Republic. With the national team he played 29 matches netting a total of 16 goals. In 1988 he won the Czech championship with Saturn Brno, the club of his native city, Brno.

His coaching career started in 1992 as player-coach of Plumbum Hradec Kralove. He coached another three clubs (one in Greece) before moving to the national team in 1996 as Assistant Coach. He was then appointed as Head Coach of the Czech national selection in 1998, a post that he occupied until 2005.

Under his charge, the Czech Republic finished third in the 2003 UEFA Futsal Championship and was eliminated in the second round of the World Cup held in Taiwan in 2004.

Striz was also voted as the best Futsal coach of the Czech Republic for seven consecutive years, between 1998 and 2004.
