Press Release – Futsal Wales

Futsal Wales are looking to develop the internal game of Futsal throughout Wales by holding a ‘Futsal Wales Invitation Cup’ to take place in October of this year in North Wales. Between 8 and 12 existing Futsal teams will be invited to compete for the Cup including all existing Futsal club teams based in Wales.

Following on from this, Futsal Wales are also hoping to arrange friendlies against both Scotland and England. John Hardy, Secretary of Futsal Wales, hopes that these games will put Welsh Futsal on the map.

‘Having spoken to Laurent Morel, UEFA Director of Futsal, I know how keen UEFA are to have a Wales team involved in the championship - Wales are the only football association in Europe not to be taking part. We hope that this is the first step to developing Futsal throughout Wales, both at club and national level’.

Currently, Wales have two existing Futsal club teams.

Futsal Conwy have recently competed in their first competitive competition in the Wirral League FA Futsal Cup Qualifiers. Although they did not qualify for the FA Futsal Cup, they gave a very good account of themselves, including a creditable performance against Tranmere Victoria.

Glamorgan Academics, based in Glamorgan University, have also just competed in their first competitive competition in the Totelos Tournament in Holland where they finished a very honourable 17th of 24 teams.
