Malta FootballHibernians to take part in Futsal CupFutsal League champions Hibernians will be taking for the first time in the UEFA Futsal Cup - the futsal equivalent of the Champions League.
This was confirmed by UEFA as the forty teams which will be taking part in the competition were revealed.
Besides Malta, clubs from Austria, Germany, Scotland, Sweden and Switzerland are all fielding representatives in the UEFA Futsal Cup for the first time.
The 2006/07 edition - the sixth edition of the competition will be the biggest yet. It also promises to be more exciting than ever as the semi-finals and final will be played under the 'final four' format, as seen in other indoor sports like basketball, in one venue next April. The competition will begin with the preliminary and main round draws on 6 July at UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland.
The preliminary round in mid-September will feature 16 sides drawn into four mini-tournament groups. Hibernians will be playing in one of the four mini-tournaments will be staged by FK Nafta Ma˛eikiai (Lithuania), Granvalira F.C. Encamp (Andorra), FC Mladost Sofia (Bulgaria) and the Scottish entrants, to be confirmed in August.
The sixteen teams in the Preliminary round are FK Nafta Ma˛eikiai (Lithuania), Futsal Mad Max (Finland), Granvalira F.C. Encamp (Andorra), FC Mladost Sofia (Bulgaria), Parnassos Nicosia (Cyprus), Toligma Chisinau (Moldova), KF Tirana (Albania), Adana Yerevan (Armenia), Doncaster College (England), Roubaix Futsal (France), USC Eugendorf (Austria), Uni Futsal Club Münster (Germany), Hibernians, Skövde AIK (Sweden), Uni Futsal Bulle (Switzerland) and a team from Scotland.
The top team from each pool will join 20 others in October's main round, with the clubs split into six groups of four.
After winning the Futsal League First Division Section A this season, Hibernians won the Championship Play-Offs after beating last season's champions Serbia 8-6.
