Tams remain ahead in futsal

FAR Eastern University relied on lightning-quick offense and swarming defense to whip Miriam College, 7-1, and remain on top of the field in the women’s side, even as Philippine Army proved too much for Veterans FC in scoring a 6-2 rout for its second win in the men’s first division at the resumption of the 2006 adidas Futsal Championship at the adidas Sports KAMP in Fort Bonifacio, Makati City.

Glaiza Artuz and Baby Jane Enaje scored two goals apiece to lead the Lady Tamaraws to their third win, while the Armymen leaned on five starters, led by Wilson de la Cruz, as the Armymen remained in contention in the three-month tournament sponsored by adidas in cooperation with the National Capital Region Football Association.

With the win, the Lady Tamaraws retained their grip on the solo lead in the women’s side with a 3-0 (win-loss) mark, a win ahead of the second-running Archers 650 (2-1-1) and De La Salle University, 2-0-1 (win-draw-loss).

The DLSU booters, with Karla Pacificador racking up four goals, earlier dumped Superfriends, 7-1. Superfriends dropped to 1-0-1.

In the other women’s match, Irok Football Club trounced Los Borrachos, 8-2, for its second win in the tournament. Simonette Gaspay and Ria Tanjangco led Irok’s assault with three and two goals, respectively, against the overmatched Los Borrachos, which took its third straight loss.

Other men’s matches saw Pagcor outplaying Los Merengues, 10-5; Lions FC hacking out a 5-3 win over Archers Luce and Marines-B edging Thonburi FC, 9-6.
