Good newsClub chairman Paul Locicero had announced the club would have to fold on 19 July after failing to secure the funding they needed from the city council and corporate backers. However, cost-cutting and extra input from sponsors has meant Charleroi will be able to carry on. "The club will continue," Locicero said, much to the delight of fans who have seen their team become one of the best-known in world Futsal.
SuccessCharleroi have won the Belgian title for the last seven seasons. They contested the first two UEFA Futsal Cup finals in 2002 and 2003, losing both times to Playas de Castellon, but bounced back to make it third time lucky with their triumph in 2005. Before news of the club's reprieve, UEFA's administration had said it would wait for confirmation from the Belgian Football Association before deciding on a possible replacement club for the 2006/07 UEFA Futsal Cup.
