800 students prepare for Morobe futsal carnival

SOCCER will be bigger and better as more than 800 students will engage in the football feast in the Morobe province next month.
The staging of the event wouldn’t be possible without the assistance of International Food Corporation (IFC) through their Besta brand.
IFC gave K10,000 to help stage the development programme for school children in the Momase region.
The sponsorship will give children an opportunity to showcase their talents and develop skills under the guidance of the PNG Sports Foundation.
PNGSF gave the tournament K5,000.
The students will come from 20 schools and will participate in what is expected to be a colourful and enjoyable carnival.
The event will be held at the Sir Ignatius Kilage stadium and Lae football field with other school venues to be confirmed.
The categories to be played in are U12 and U13 (five-a-side) boys & girls, U14 and U15 (seven-a-side) boys and girls.
The event will be guided by FIFA Futsal (modified games) rules with only certified referees to umpire the finals.
A nomination fee of K100 to subsidise all costs of running the programme with registration fees only K2 per player to be deposited into PNGFA account 10001146864 BSP Lae.
A nomination of about K100 will also be charged to each school to help subsidise a K6000 shortfall in budget and can be deposited in PNGSF projects A/C 1001074683.
Meanwhile, the organising committee are urging interested schools to contact Geo Sam, Philip Lavatu and Aaron Mugaliong on phone 479-1029, 472-0510 or fax 472-1900 to register.
The deadline is Sept 8 for all nomination and registration.
