Thrills assured at Metro Carnival

THE IM Metro Futsal Carnival, to be held on Sept 17 at the Rio de Futsal in Subang Jaya, has attracted 128 teams from the i-Metro (IM) community.

Fierce competition is in store as a prize money of RM10,000 awaits the champions. The runner-up will settle for RM6,000 while the third-placed team will collect RM3,000.
Harian Metro executive editor Mustapa Omar said they were surprised to receive 400 entries when the closing date ended on Aug 23.

“We did not expect such a great response. We were just planning to have an average competition.

“Since IM’s launch on June 6, we now have 12,500 members.

“Futsal is now a popular sport and it’s a good way to get our members to interact with one another, ” said Mustapa at the Carnival’s launch at Balai Berita yesterday.

The tournament also received a sponsorhip of RM20,000 and products from Figos Sports Wear.

Figos managing director Tang Kok Wai presented the mock cheque and products to New Straits Times Press (M) Berhad (NSTP) Group Editor In Chief Datuk Hishamuddin Aun.

Celcom, the Carnival’s main sponsor, are contributing RM45,000 and jerseys for the competition.
