Association lines up 2006 MassKara football activities

THE Negros Occidental Football Association (Nofa) headed by Representative Charlie Cojuangco (Fourth District, Negros Occidental) has lined up football activities in line with this year's MassKara Festival celebrations.

In a meeting Wednesday at the Nofa clubhouse in Bacolod City, representatives of the various football clubs affiliated with the association were briefed of the activities, which include a skills competition among players belonging to different age groups, a futsal (indoor football) competition, a seven-a-side football festival as well as a women's beach football competition.

Billed as "Hudyat", the series of activities is envisioned to drum-up public attention and awareness on the forthcoming Asean Football Federation (AFF) Cup (formerly the Tiger Cup) which Nofa is scheduled to host here in Bacolod City on November 12 to 20, 2006, at the Panaad Sports and Recreational Park pitch and at the Paglaum Sports Complex.

The skills competition, which will be conducted in the open, U19 and U15 categories, will include slalom, ball juggling, shooting and freestyle and is scheduled on October 7.

The Futsal competition, which will be staged in the open, 38-above as well as 30-37 years old categories, will be held from October 9-13 either at USLS or at the Negros Occidental Multi-Purpose Activity Center and with competition in the open division serving as provincial eliminations for the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) national open Futsal championship.

On the other hand, the women's beach football competition will be contested in the open category and will be staged at the University of St. La Salle beach volley court.

Nofa tournament committee member Joseph Gensaya told Sun.Star Thursday there is a possibility that the women's squads of Cebu, Dumaguete and Iloilo will also see action in the women's beach football series.
