Our Sports CentralNational Futsal Team Training Camp Kicks Into High Gear09/29/06Countries from around the world are preparing their teams. Only the best of the best will compete. This year, the United States Men's National Futsal Team, under Milwaukee Wave and US National Team Head Coach Keith Tozer, have been invited to compete in the 2007 Pan American Games in Brazil.
"As defending CONCACAF Champions, we are elated about Futsal being in the Pan American games and we look forward to the challenge of bringing home a medal," says Tozer.
With support from the United States Soccer Federation, Coach Tozer invited 24 talented players from professional and college teams from around the country to showcase their skill in hopes to be selected for the Pan American Team at training camp from Oct. 1-6 in Milwaukee. Invitees include eight Milwaukee Wave players: Nick Vorberg, Todd Dusosky, Troy Dusosky, Johnny Torres, Matt Schmidt, Lovelace Ackah, Angel Rivillo and Chad Dombrowski.
In addition to the Milwaukee Wave players attending, other players include USL-1 co-leading scorer Cam Weaver and MISL All-Star defender Randy Soderman, both of whom were selected by the Wave in the recent MISL dispersal draft involving St. Louis players.
The MISL players attending the training camp include: Enrique Tovar and Dominik Jakubek from California Cougars, Danny Waltman from Detroit Ignition, Elvir Kafedzic and Matthew Stewart from Chicago Storm and Andy Guastaferro from Philadelphia Kixx.
"I am extremely excited about this upcoming training and ID camp. This is the first time that we have been able to bring in 24 players to increase our player pool," says Tozer. "The team had recent success finishing seventh in the World in China, and I am looking forward to what the new generation of players will bring."
In May 2007, the United States National Futsal Team will be conducting another training camp as well as a trip to Italy, Spain and Portugal in July.
The Pan American Games are the second largest gathering of countries. Conducted every four years, the Pan American Games includes the Olympic Program sports and others that are not part of the Olympics.
