USFFU.S. FUTSAL FEDERATION News release Sept 26, 2006US FUTSAL LAUNCHES “STOP THE VIOLENCE” CAMPAIGNBERKELEY, Calif., September 26, 2006
In 2007, the United States Futsal® Federation will begin a “Stop the Violence” campaign to help our nation’s youth. We are reaching out to
communities across the United States in order to promote Futsal® to disadvantaged youth; develop programs in high risk communities to help police departments and community leaders “Stop the Violence”; help keep children off the streets by providing funds for a Futsal® youth program; and create better communities through Futsal®.
It is our mission to ensure that disadvantaged youth have the same opportunities as every other child across the United States. US Futsal® is committed to assist underprivileged children by providing a Futsal® enrichment program that teaches them the game of Futsal®. The program focuses on developing a youth Futsal® players fundamentals, teamwork, camaraderie and the spirit of the game. However, it is more than a Futsal® program. The positive interaction that we create within the community will prove to be essential in the community’s growth. Our involvement with local community police departments and in after-school programs has proven to be a positive crime prevention tactic by providing guidance and educating our nation’s children.
The program helps keep children off the streets and the needless risk of becoming involved in gangs, drugs, alcohol and criminal activity. With proper funding, this program will reduce crime and violence, and help children learn the skills and values they need to become good neighbors and responsible adults.
US Futsal® is currently analyzing communities in need and will select a program within that community. Program selection is based on whether or not Futsal® is already being played in that community, venues available, and the level of need for more extracurricular activities for children.
The program must be involved in keeping children off the streets and away from violence. Once a program is selected, a venue will be chosen and a fundraising Futsal® tournament is organized.
Examples of programs already selected are DC SCORES in Washington, DC and “Kids with Cops” in Montgomery County, MD. 2007 dates are set for those tournaments. Organizations in New York City, San Jose, CA and New Brunswick, NJ are currently being considered.
Our goal is that by the year 2010, Futsal® will be the dominant game of soccer played in reduced areas, characterized by excellence in participation, competition, sportsmanship and skill development.
If your community would like to be considered to benefit from the “Stop the Violence” campaign or to become a sponsor of our program please contact us at futsal@futsal.org.
