Terrace StandardLadies, prepare for futsalOct 04 2006THE WOMEN'S indoor soccer season kicks off for another season with a new version of the game.
Monday night play this year will be dedicated to futsal, which is like outdoor soccer as the "field" has a perimeter, and requires a larger gym such as the one at Thornhill Junior Secondary.
Each team can also have more players on at one time, says league spokesperson Nina Peden. She says an advantage of futsal over regular indoor soccer is that players definitely learn better foot control of the ball.
The wish is to add another night for futsal as soon as the league can secure more time in a big gym.
The Women's Soccer Association is also looking for players of all skill levels.
Athletes can specify a particular team to play on or be placed where needed. The cost to join is $85.
Games go at Thornhill Junior Secondary, Cassie Hall and Thornhill Elementary schools starting Oct. 10 and running until April.
Teams play two games each week and there's the potential for more. An indoor tournament is planned again this year.
