FUTSAL SKILLS USED AT THE WORLD CUP
I?m sure everybody was excited to see Renaldo?s use of the ?toe-poke? in scoring his goal in the semifinal against Turkey. I was also smiling at watching Roberto Carlos sideways dribbling across the field using the sole of the boot. Like all the Futsal purists who read this I?m sure we all remember coaching kids such skills at Futsal training, only to be told their soccer coach had said that it was bad for their soccer skills and to stop doing it. The passing the ball with an outside of the foot ? flick? is another Futsal skill that used to be frowned upon, yet is now commonplace.
So perhaps now these previous critics of the sport will take notice that the sport has a lot to offer soccer.
WORLD CUP FINALS
A few people who have been to Centre of Excellence, rang me and said they had spotted Gui at the end of the game running around hugging the players. Gui, who most of the children who have attended know as the ?man in the suit with the mobile phone in his ear? went with the team as head administrator and justly deserved to celebrate with all the Brazil staff. He also was in Brisbane in 2000 with the Brazil Olympic team as head administrator and Toowoomba club members may remember me bringing him up on a Sunday afternoon to present trophies out at the Hockey centre.
All the best Gui, and when your rich and famous remember me.
Also at the World Cup was Marcos, who put on a BBQ for the Futsal tour in May and is a good friend of mine. Marcos was offered a position at PALMEIRAS soccer club, but instead ended up at the World Cup on the FIFA TECHNICAL COMMITTEE. Could also be the start of big things for Marcos.
STATE TRAINING CAMP
The first of the state club training camps was held last weekend at ACACIA RIDGE CENTRE and from all accounts it has been a great success. This weekend was the girls teams camp. The centre is perfect for camps with the Acacia Ridge hotel/motel across the road, and the indoor facility having two indoor courts, heated indoor pool, beach volleyball courts, outdoor soccer pitch ,change rooms and kiosk/canteen.
This coming weekend will see the boys teams training and hopefully will be as successful.
The camps are not only useful for training but give teams that initial chance to get together and meet a good six months before the titles.

THE FUTSAL MORNING CREW ON B105
Last Friday Brian and Jim from Queensland Futsal went out to the Radio B105 BREAKFAST SHOW street party to help set up and run the mornings entertainment. As Jamie and Skippy from the show had lost the ? Battle of the Sexes? they had to stand in a Futsal goal , with targets painted on them, and be shot at by passersby.
The morning was a great promotion for Queensland Futsal with plenty of free plugs from the hosts and Jim even being interviewed. Photos of the day can be seen on the website www.qldfutsal.com.au
GATTON CENTRE OFFICIALLY OPENS
I, Brian and Jim went out three weeks ago for the official opening of the new Gatton Indoor Centre. The centre is a three courter about one hour west of Brisbane in the Lockyer Valley farming district.
Thanks to the work of Chris Macleod, PE teacher at the local high school, the Futsal club is already up and running with nearly 250 players. We are also having the southwest school titles there.
