AMS Kicks Off Ramadan Futsal League

The Association of Maldivian Students (AMS) in Sri Lanka has started a five-aside football (futsal) league to mark the start of Ramadan.

“Since Ramadan is a festive season in the Maldives, where family gatherings and friendly get-togethers are frequent, the Association of Maldivian Students in Sri Lanka has combined social unity with Futsal this month,” the student body said on Thursday.

On 4th October, the association kicked off the Futsal league at the High Commission of Maldives in Sri Lanka.

The league consists of ten teams with a total of 70 players, each team with seven players including two substitute players.

Participating teams are:

1. Al - Azurees
2. Al - Azurees (Juniors)
3. Corinthians
4. Fc Dhihan
5. Fc Dhihan (Juniors)
6. Gangster Kids
7. Gangsters
8. Haseenage Diary
9. Kolhumbu Kudhin
10. Maakanjoos

The AMS said that the objectives of the league are to “present and spread the vision of unity and cohesion in the association through Futsal and to promote physical fitness, athleticism, and to encourage good sportsmanship.”

Founded in March 2005, the AMS in Sri Lanka is the most active Maldivian students association based abroad.

The aim of the organisation is to promote and foster friendship, national spirit and unity among the Maldivian students in Sri Lanka.
