The Star on LineSelection trials to pick players for national futsal teamMonday October 16, 2006PETALING JAYA: Malaysia are making a head start to form a strong futsal team for the SEA Games in Thailand next year.
Chief coach P. Balakrishnan said that plans were under way to prepare the national team for the regional competition and they would start by holding selection trials at the Wisma FAM in Kelana Jaya early next month.
“We have identified several potentials based on feedbacks from our local coaches. We will hold a five-day trial to see whether they are cut out for the national team,” said Balakrishnan.
About 35 players are expected to attend the trials before the first phase of centralised training begins in December.
The national team will also be preparing for the Asean Football Federation (AFF) and AFC futsal championships in May next year. Futsal will be making its debut in the SEA Games.
