Antigua SunAntigua get Futsal courseMonday October 23 2006 A six-week coaching course to educate a number of willing participants about a mini-version of football, more popularly known as Futsal, will come on stream within the first week of November.
This is according to the Antigua & Barbuda Football Association, who said that the course will be conducted by Shawn Samuel, chairman of the Futsal Committee – Samuel also received Futsal training while studying in Cuba.
“The introduction for Futsal should start now while the beach football will be introduced in the second quarter of 2007 or the first part of 2008. This is to facilitate a deeper investigation into the infrastructure and human resources needed for the sustainable development of beach football in Antigua & Barbuda,” a release from Samuel read. Samuel went on to further explain that the introduction of the sport will be done in mainly two stages which will include the education of coaches, players and officials and then the introduction of a Futsal tournament here in Antigua.
