Brazil is the new juvenile champion in futsal after conquering Argentina 2-0

30 / 10 / 2006

The national team of Brazil was proclaimed champion of the II South American U-20 of Futsal Venezuela 2006, after defeating Argentina by 2-0 in the final. In the last round that took place at the "World Champions of 97" gym in San Cristóbal, the Brazilians ratified their favoritism with a good victory over the whites and blues by 2-0, with goals by Willian and Dimas in the first half, to be crowned twice champions.

A step above all
The Brazilians never found resistance in facing several of the teams in the whole of the tournament, although Argentina was the only team that planted face to them in matches that were won by the same score of two goals to zero. In the final match, Argentina had begun well and provoked two good interventions by Brazilian goalkeeper Guilherme. But the Brazilian coach Totonho adjusted some pieces and, before the first half concluded, Brazil had already scored its two goals.

Although in disadvantage, the white and blue squad didn't attack much in the second half, since it feared the very fast Brazilian counterblows. At the end, the white and blue combine, coached by Fernando Larrañaga, attempted a feat by replacing its goalkeeper with a field player, but it wasn't able to harm Guilherme's barrier, the best goalkeeper in the tournament.

After the consecration, Totonho expressed that "Our country proved again that it has inferior quality divisions. These young men are talented and with some work they achieved a good performance.

Third position for Venezuela
On the other hand, the national team of Venezuela was awarded third place in the tournament, after goaling its similar of Uruguay by 5-2. The vinotinto goals were the work of Gabriel Colmenares (m.6), Mario Ramírez (m.14), Edison Silva at the end of the first half, José Bastidas six minutes into the second half and Jorge Peñaranda near the end of the match.

This was the second edition of the South American U-20 of Futsal that had its debut two years ago in the Brazilian city of Fortaleza, where the hosts took the title, when conquering Venezuela by 5-1 in the final.

The Argentinean national team, besides demonstrating to be almost as good as Brazil, at a level superior to the rest of the teams that disputed the South American, was awarded the Fair Play trophy for being the team that most respected the clean game. Larrañaga's group was observed with only two yellow cards and a red one, after five matches played with maximum intensity. Brazil, the champion, was second in fair play. Argentina and Brazil to semifinals; Venezuela has a foot in

24 / 10 / 2006

The national teams of Argentina and Brazil assured their qualification to semifinals yesterday, in the II South American U-20 of Futsal, while the host Venezuela has a foot in the following phase. Paraguay and Ecuador, on the contrary, no longer have possibilities to move on to the following phase.

In the second round of matches that took place at the "World Champions of 97" of Pueblo Nuevo stadium, in San Cristóbal, Argentina added its second victory in the early afternoon, when defeating Paraguay again by 3-2, in the match corresponding to Group B.

In that same Group, Brazil also assured its early qualification when treating Ecuador to a massive 9-2 barrage of goals.

On the other hand, Uruguay returned to the fight for one of the slots in Group B, after submitting Colombia by 2-1. The round closed tonight with the host Venezuela's victory against Peru by a 7-1 barrage, demonstrating to be one of the serious candidates for the title.

The last round will be played this Wednesday and all seems to indicate that a South American "classic" between Brazil and Argentina will define positions in Group B. The confrontations in group A will also be very attractive. Colombia will try to conquer Peru in order to have a last chance, while Uruguay will attempt to throw off Venezuela, to be guaranteed a place among the four finalists of the contest.
