Boomerang begin bid in Italy

Friday, 3 November 2006

UEFA Futsal Cup holders Boomerang Interviú face a trip to Italy to meet Arzignano Grifo C/5, MNK Split and CC LKW Jistebnik in December after the Elite round draw was made today in Nyon.

Seeds enter
Two-time European champions Boomerang were one of four seeds given a bye to this stage, and were joined by the 12 successful teams from the Main round in being split into one of a quartet of groups. Boomerang will face Group A hosts Arzignano in the last game of their mini-tournament, while the team that took the Spanish title off the Madrid club last season and held them 3-3 in the league last month, El Pozo Murcia FS, are in Group D in Budapest and will play hosts Futsal Club Gödöllö, FC Dorozhnik Minsk and 2005/06 semi-finalists Kairat Almaty.

Dinamo bid
Action 21 Charleroi, hoping to bounce back from financial problems to recapture the form that won them the 2004/05 UEFA Futsal Cup, are in Group C alongside Polish hosts Clearex Chorzów, KMF Marbo Beograd and Araz Naxçivan. MFK Dinamo Moskva, beaten by Charleroi and Boomerang in the last two finals, begin their bid to go one better as they stage a fascinating Group B against two former semi-finalists FC Shakhtar Donetsk and Sporting Clube de Portugal, plus Romania's CIP Deva.

Final four aim
The mini-tournaments will be played between 4-10 December, and only the group winners will progress to the new final four competition on 26-28 April 2007, with the hosts for the decisive knockout event to be picked from among the qualifiers.
