WNC-C booters pace 'Hudyat' futsal tourney

BY CHRISTIAN IRL TAN

West Negros College-C prevailed over Talisay Football Club, 10-8, yesterday for its third victory in bracket B of the NOFA-Hudyat Provincial Futsal Championship at the Negros Occidental Multi-Purpose Activity Center in Bacolod City.

Team A of the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos scored its second straight win in bracket B after nipping WNC-A, 7-6, while Supertech posted a 4-2 triumph over WNC-B, improving to 2-0 in bracket A.

Handumanan United FC and CPAC-A barged into the win column with victories over CPAC-B, 11-2, and Bacolod City National High School, 7-4, respectively, in brackets B and A.

The other encounter in bracket A saw a 4-4 draw between Recoletos-B and the AFF personnel.

West Negros-C, which emerged victorious against CPAC-B and WNC-A on Thursday, was once again spearheaded by playing-coach Norman Fegidero, who delivered another hat-trick.

Fegidero, who anchored the WNC squad that topped the 2004 national futsal tournament, struck twice in the first half before sealing the win for the Wesnecans by converting on a breakaway in the final seconds of the game.

After Joel Ballo-allo gave WNC-C a 9-8 cushion on a blistering long-range shot with less than a minute left, Fegidero scored from close range to give his squad the victory.

Erwin Guitche led Talisay's last ditch uprising by booting in two goals in the second half and help his team tie the score at 8 after absorbing a 3-6 deficit at halftime.

But the Talisaynons ran out of steam in the crucial stages of the tussle with their defense failing to contain the Wesnecans' final burst.

Ballo-allo, Eliseo Palomo Jr. and Carlo Tacosalme also came up big for WNC-C with two goals each, while Robert Nene joined the bandwagon by registering a goal in the first half.

Tony Mark Arinal and Hanelo Soriano also had two goals apiece for Talisay, while Michael Rojo and Janrick Soriano posted a goal each.

The top two squads in each bracket will take on each other in a crossover semifinal round with the championship gaining the right to represent Negros in the national finals next year in Bacolod City. *CIT
