By Henry C. Villalva

THE 2004 National Futsal champion West Negros College (WNC) will represent the Negros Occidental Football Association (Nofa) in the 2007 Philippine Football Federation (PFF) National Futsal (indoor football) Championship by February or March next year.

The Wesnecans, mentored by playing coach and former national team mainstay Norman Fegidero Jr., defeated Supertech, 9-7, in the championship match of the '06 Nofa provincial Futsal championship at the Negros Occidental Multi-Purpose Activity Center.

WNC, which retained its six lineup members that include Fegidero, Joel Ballo-allo, Robert Russel Nene, Robert Caņedo, Eliseo Palomo Jr. and keeper Kenneth Dolloso, tallied goals of 4 made by Carlo Tacusalme.

Two goals were also made by Nene and one apiece by Fegidero, Ballo-allo and Jalor Soriano.

Supertech, which got into the finals after it edged University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos 'A' in the semis 6-5, was bannered by former University of St. La Salle stalwarts led by Ronnie Tornilla, Rolando Ian Treyes, Simon Hulleza, Fredrick Jan Serios and keeper Archie Bayquin, among others.

Meanwhile, the newly crowned provincial champions, making up WNC Team 'C', posted a 9-5 semi-final victory over WNC Team 'B'.

WNC 'B' eventually salvaged third place after posting a hard-earned, 5-4, win over UNO-R 'A' with Michael Orbino completing a hat trick while Jayme Poderoso and Jalsor Soriano chipped in with one goal each for the win.

The Recoletos booters scored through two goals apiece by Christopher Cabrillos and Jeepee Gardose.

Twelve teams saw action in the event as part of the HUDYAT Putbol series of football activities organized by Nofa to drum up public attention on the forthcoming 2006 Asean Football Championship qualifiers scheduled November 12-20 at the Panaad Sports and Recreational Park pitch in Barangay Mansilingan.

The nine-day event featuring the national teams of Laos, Cambodia, Brunie, Timor Leste and the Philippines is organized by the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) and hosted by Nofa, which is headed by Representative Carlos O. Cojuangco (fourth district, Negros Occidental).

West Negros-C, Supertech score in futsal tourney

BY CHRISTIAN IRL TAN

West Negros College-C and Supertech Football Club scored victories against separate rivals yesterday at the start of the NOFA-Hudyat Provincial Futsal Championship at the Negros Occidental Multi-Purpose Activity Center in Bacolod City.

WNC-C, spearheaded by playing coach Norman Fegidero, drubbed WNC-A, 11-5, in bracket B, before the Supertech booters disposed the AFF Personnel with the same score in bracket A.

The 36-year-old Fegidero, a former RP striker, flashed his form that made him one of the country's deadliest scorers by delivering a hat-trick to anchor West Negros-C's balanced attack.

Fegidero, who also led the WNC squad that brought home the 2004 national futsal title, struck all of his three goals in the second half after his team established a 6-4 lead at halftime. Robert Nene and Eliseo Palermo Jr. produced two goals each for the Wesnecans, while Raffy Llorente, Allan Auman, Siegfred Apurado, Joel Ballo-allo added one goal apiece.

Pacing WNC-A's losing effort were freshmen Mark Ferrer and Vice Braga with two goals each, while Erose Ca-aya booted in another goal in the first half.

In the Supertech-AFF tussle, Frederick Jan Serios shone the brightest for Supertech as he connected for five goals, including a hat-trick in the first half alone.

Serios, a former University of St. La Salle striker, added two more goals in the second half as Simon Hulleza and Ian Treyes also finished the encounter with two goals apiece.

Other goal scorers for Supertech were Ronnie Tornilla and Taka Yano, a Japanese player based in Bacolod.

Carlo Torbella, mentor of University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos, spearheaded AFF after striking four goals with two coming in each half as Jose Dayot delivered a goal.

Other squads competing in the tournament are Bacolod City National High School, WNC-B, UNO-R A and B, CPAC A and B, Talisay City FC and Handumanan United FC. *CIT
