The AFC.comAFC Futsal Committee: President encourages Asia not to be complacent 20 November 2006 KUALA LUMPUR: The AFC Futsal Committee meeting was held here at AFC House today, chaired by Junji Ogura (Japan).
In the President’s address, Mohamed bin Hammam stated: "I would like to say congratulations to each National Association who has contributed to a very successful year of futsal."
However, the AFC President urged each national association not to be complacent and encouraged them to improve futsal in Asia, focusing on the education of coaches, referees of the game proper.
“We already have achieved a lot in Asia where futsal is concerned, but we need to work harder to have better quality players at the highest level, and also more participants in futsal overall. Therefore, to concentrate on grassroots development, coaching, and referees is a very important aim for this Committee to adopt.”
The committee also confirmed that the AFC Futsal Championship 2007 will be held from May 13-19 2007 in Japan, with two venues Osaka and Kobe.
The qualifying round for this competition will be held in Chinese Taipei with 11 teams (Cambodia, Chinese Taipei, Guam, Indonesia, Iraq, Korea Republic, Lebanon, Macau, Maldives, Myanmar and Philippines) competing for the four seats in the Finals. The date will be announced in the near future.
