SOCKERS CLINCH HOME-FIELD ADVANTAGE THROUGHOUT 2001
WISL PLAYOFFS
In a battle of the two top teams in the World Indoor
Soccer League (WISL), the San Diego Sockers (14-10)
defeated the visiting Dallas Sidekicks (14-10) 5-0 in
the 2001 regular season finale on Dec. 2. Although
both teams finished with identical records, San Diego
clinched first place and home-field advantage throughout
the WISL playoffs after winning the season series over
Dallas 4-2. Following is the 2001 WISL Final Standings
and playoff schedule:

WISL NAMES SOCKERS FORWARD "2001 ROOKIE OF THE YEAR"
San Diego Sockers forward David Beltran was named the
2001 WISL "Rookie of the Year" on Dec. 3. A native of
the San Diego area, Beltran made his professional debut
with the Sockers this season finishing with six goals
and five assists. The 23-year-old help lead the Sockers
to a first-place 14-10 ledger in only their first season
in the WISL.

KIXX WIN TWO AND REMAIN IN FIRST-PLACE IN MISL STANDINGS
The Philadelphia Kixx posted back-to-back home victories
last week and continue to lead the 2001-02 Major Indoor
Soccer League (MISL) standings with a 7-2 overall ledger.
The Kixx defeated the Milwaukee Wave (6-4) 20-8 on Nov.
28, then earned a 21-14 victory over the Cleveland Crunch
(3-8) on Dec. 1. The Kansas City Comets (5-7) also won
two straight MISL games after stopping the host Crunch
11-9 in overtime on Nov. 30, and then handing the visiting
Harrisburg Heat (5-5) a 24-6 defeat on Dec. 1. In other
MISL matches, the Wave dropped a 15-13 overtime decision
to the host Baltimore Blast (5-5) on Dec. 1, but rebounded
to earn a 9-7 victory over the visiting Heat the next day

U.S. CAPTAINS' HAT TRICK LEADS BLAST PAST WAVE
U.S. Futsal National Team Captain and defender Sean
Bowers notched three goals including the game-winner
in the Baltimore Blast 15-13 overtime victory over the
visiting Milwaukee Wave in an MISL match-up on Dec. 1.
Bowers earned the hat trick with his third tally for the
Blast in the 7:36 mark of the overtime period. Bowers,
who has played with the U.S. squad since 1996, is
currently ranked third in the all-time appearance list
with 21.
