FIFA held its first Futsal Seminar in South America

Profitable meet in Montevideo

From the 11th to the 15th of the current month in Montevideo, Uruguay, FIFA helf its First Futsal Seminar within the CONMEBOL region. The event had the presence of the top authorities from the world organization and outstanding specialists in the matter. All the South American associations were also represented by their respective delegations.
Chilean football leader (and future president of the national association of his country) Harold Mayne-Nicholls was in charge of the seminar's organization, in his function as FIFA Development Officer for the region, with the collaboration of Jaime Yarza (FIFA development agent for Futsal and Beach Soccer), who officiated as host of the event, and Laura González of Paraguay, (Official FIFA Assistant). Also present was the president of Uruguayan futsal and Secretary of the Futsal Commission of CONMEBOL, José Enrique Romero.

The meet drew some maningful conclusions for continental futsal. All the delegations gave their report on the realities of the sport in their respective countries and, starting from these, the participants fine tuned the details that will allow for bigger development.

The growth and, fundamentally, the way in which steps were taken in the development of futsal in Spain, were broadly exposed by FIFA instructor Armando Rodríguez, emphasizing that, after listening to the different realities in the continent, he had found some matching points with the beginnings of the LNFS in Spain, for which he didn't discard a potential growth of the sport in South America within a future process.

The importance of youth competitions, was addressed by Spaniard Armando Rodríguez, and the organization of the national leagues, by Ignacio Vicente, from his experience in management as Director of Competitions of the Nacional of Futsal League of Spain, brought a range of interesting points of view and exchanges of ideas. These will contribute to leveling the roads for organization in each national South American association ana, depending on the realities of each, the different solutions offered in the seminar could be adopted.

The merchandising, and financing of competitions, had their place and were covered by Spaniard José Sanjurjo (FIFA Instructor). Women's futsal was also debated and, through FIFA, a qualitative and quantitative growth in the importance of this sport is expected within the next years. In this respect, a clear interest in giving a dynamic push to this activity was observed in all the commissions and the federations present.

After an interesting exchange of ideas on the topics covered, came the day of closing. The participants were soaked in the experience of their continental peers and the steps to follow -sometimes in a combined way, or in some cases individualy- as for the future, and the good will of FIFA to support futsal in each case -based upon the working projects and necessities that the interested countries submit in writing to the mentioned entity-.


Uruguay will be double host in 2007
Both in clubs, as well as in national teams, Uruguay will be epicenter of South American futsal in 2007. As far as national teams, Uruguay will host the South American Preliminary round for the Futsal World Cup Brazil 2008 (it is still not certain how many teams will participate in the World Cup).

In the club environment, Uruguay will host the South Area of the South American in 2007. The local qualified squads are Malvín (2006 champion) and Nacional (vice-champion).


Visits of the "Olympic Futsal-dream" delegation

The president of the Paulista Federation, Dr. Ciro Fontão, next to the Secretary of the entity, Marcos Diniz, in charge of the web page that promotes the "Olympic Dream" campaign, (www.futsal.com.br), visited Uruguay as part of the great repercussion that this campaign (begun in 2003), has had this year, a fact that generated great interest in all of the continent.

During their visit, the representatives of the olympic campaign, obtained the official backing from the president of the Uruguayan Football Association, Dr. José Luis Corbo and also from the Official Member of the International Olympic Committee, Dr. Julio Caesar Maglione. All within the framework of the support and representativeness that the Brazilian delegation looks for in the world environment.

La FIFA celebró su primer Seminario sobre Futsal en Sudamérica

Provechoso encuentro en Montevideo

En la semana del 11 al 15 del presente en Montevideo, Uruguay, se celebró el 1er. Seminario de la FIFA sobre Futsal en el ámbito de la CONMEBOL. El mismo contó con la presencia de las máximas autoridades del organismo mundial y de destacados especialistas en la materia. Asimismo, todas las asociaciones sudamericanas estuvieron representadas por respectivas delegaciones.
La organización del Seminario estuvo bajo la coordinación del dirigente chileno (futuro presidente de la asociación nacional de su país) Harold Mayne-Nicholls, desde su cargo de Oficial de Desarrollo de FIFA, quién contó con la colaboración de Jaime Yarza (gestor de desarrollo de Futsal y Fútbol Playa de la FIFA) que ofició como anfitrión del evento, y se contó con la participación de Laura González (de Paraguay, Asistente Oficial de FIFA) y por supuesto, el presidente del futsal uruguayo y Secretario de la Comisión de Futsal de la CONMEBOL, José Enrique Romero.

El encuentro arrojó conclusiones de mucho valor para el futsal continental. Todas las delegaciones dieron a conocer las realidades del deporte en sus respectivos países y, a partir de esas exposiciones, se fueron afinando los detalles que permitirán un mayor desarrollo.

El crecimiento y, fundamentalmente, la forma en que se fueron dando los pasos para ello en el futsal de España (la poderosa NFSL), fue un tema ampliamente expuesto por el instructor FIFA Armando Rodríguez, enfatizando éste, luego de escuchar las distintas realidades en el continente, que muchas de las características expresadas, tenía punto de encuentro con los inicio de la NFSL, por lo que no descartaba un crecimiento potencial del deporte en Sudamérica dentro de un proceso a futuro.

La importancia de las competiciones infantiles, tema abordado por el español Armando Rodríguez, y la organización de las ligas nacionales, a cargo de Ignacio Vicente, desde su experiencia en la gestión como Director de Competiciones de la Liga Nacional de Fútbol Sala de España, llevaron una gama de interesantes puntos de vistas e intercambios de ideas. Las mismas contribuirán a allanar caminos en cuanto a la organización en cada asociación nacional de Sudamérica ya que, dependiendo de cada realidad, podrían adoptarse las distintas pautas ofrecidas en el marco del Seminario.

El merchandising, y puntualmente, la financiación de las competiciones, también tuvieron su espacio a cargo del español José Sanjurjo (Instructor FIFA). También se debatió acerca del futsal femenino, procurándose por intermedio de FIFA un crecimiento cualitativo y cuantitativo de importancia para este deporte en los próximos años. Al respecto se apreció un claro interés de todas las comisiones y federaciones presentes en dar un empuje dinámico a esta actividad.

Luego de un interesante intercambio de ideas sobre los temas tratados se llegó al día de cierre. Los participantes se empaparon la actualidad de sus pares continentales, los pasos a seguir -de forma conjunta en algunos casos e individual en otros- en cuanto al futuro, y la buena disposición de FIFA para apoyar al futsal en cada caso -puntualmente de acuerdo al proyecto de trabajo y necesidades que los países interesados presenten por escrito a la mencionada entidad-.


Uruguay será doble anfitrión en 2007
Tanto en el ámbito de selecciones como de clubes, Uruguay será epicentro del futsal sudamericano en 2007. En lo que respecta a selecciones nacionales, Uruguay será la sede de la Eliminatoria Sudamericana para el Mundial de Futsal Brasil 2008 (aún no está determinado cuántos equipos participarán del Mundial).

En el ámbito de la competencia entre clubes, Uruguay albergará a la Zona Sur del Sudamericano en 2007. Los conjuntos locales clasificados son Malvín (campeón de 2006) y Nacional (subcampeón).


Visita de la delegación de "Futsal-Sueño Olímpico"
El presidente de la Federación Paulista, Dr. Ciro Fontão, junto al Secretario de la entidad, Marcos Diniz, a cargo del sitio web que impulsa la campaña "Sueño Olímpico" (www.futsal.com.br), visitaron Uruguay con motivo de la gran repercusión que dicha campaña (iniciada en 2003), tuvo en el presente año, hecho que generó gran respuesta en el resto del continente.

En la ocasión, los representantes de la campaña olímpica, obtuvieron el respaldo oficial hacia la misma, por parte del presidente de la Asociación Uruguaya de Fútbol, Dr. José Luis Corbo y también del Miembro Oficial del Comité Olímpico Internacional Dr. Julio César Maglione. Todo dentro del marco de apoyo y representatividad que la delegación brasileña busca en el ámbito mundial.
