Local girls make state Futsal side

THE PCYC may have closed and the sports stadium may not yet be completed but five a side indoor soccer game Futsal, is still attracting plenty of interest here in Young.

Three young ladies were selected to play for Soccer NSW Futsal at the 2007 Australian National Futsal Championships in Canberra today.

Peta Glasheen and Renay Stanford were chosen for the u15 Girls NSW Storm team and Sarah Hill in the Under 13 Girls NSW Lightning Team after initially being selected from the State Futsal Club Championships held in early November.

These were played within there respective age divisions with teams from the Young PCYC.

Peta, Renay and Sarah along with Jessica Millar were asked to participate in try outs the following weekend at the Bonnyrigg Indoor Centre in their respective age groups.

Both Peta and Sarah gained selection for NSW Futsal and Renay, initially listed as a reserve, was later called into the Storm team only last week. Jessica narrowly missed out on selection.

Since the try outs the girls have travelled nearly every weekend to Sydney for training and trial games.

The Futsal championships last a week and comprises of teams from all states and territories.

These championships will be playing host to a record 155 teams in age groups from u10 boys and u11 girls right through to both senior men's and women's divisions over the entire week.

This is the second year Sarah has represented NSW for Futsal, making the u12 Girl's Thunder team at last year's championships held at the Gold Coast.

Jessica Millar and Sammie Wood were also NSW Futsal representatives at last year's championships.

These three girls are not the only three representatives from Young at the Championships, after lengthy discussions with Head of Soccer NSW Futsal Tim Genzo, Jim Glasheen was persuaded to coach the u15 girls state team.

Jim has in the past, coached of the successful Young PCYC u14 girls team, who were runners up at the 2005 NSW Futsal State Club Championships and the u14/15 girls ACT Futsal Regional Championships as well as the u14 Girls Club National Champions last January in Sydney.

The abilities of these three young ladies don't stop there, with all three excelling in the outdoor game.

Sarah represented Western Branch in the u14 Girls State Titles held at Dubbo in October, her third year in a row, with Peta having represented Western Branch and last season finished seventh overall in the best and fairest count in the Bathurst and District Ladies competition as well as winning the best and fairest at club level for the Young Lionesses Ladies team.

Renay has also represented Western Branch.
