Alex's ready to help England get serious

SALISBURY City midfielder Alex Haddow is Romania-bound after being selected for England Futsal team's trio of UEFA European Championship pre-qualifying group matches.

He already has six international caps and impressed selectors last month in the two friendly internationals against France which were played in Sheffield.

Haddow, who has scored four goals in six games, hopes to line up in the qualifiers against Romania, Latvia and Bulgaria which are to be played between January 18-21 in Deva.

He said: "I'm delighted to be called-up, especially as it's not just a friendly - it actually matters."

England's futsal scene is still developing but Haddow believes that the side is capable of qualifying for the first time.

He said: "We've been improving so we're quietly confident that we've got a better chance than ever before."

The group winner will automatically progress to February's qualifying stage, while places are also up for grabs to the best runners-up from the groups.
