ASPAC MASTERS GAMESA reminder to everyone that entries for the ASPAC masters games close mid August. The games are held down the Gold Coast every second year, and the last event attracted over 10,000 competitors. This year?s Futsal tournament will be played September 20th to 22nd at Bond University. As usual we are holding the categories of over 30 men, over 40 men, over 30 mixed, over 40 mixed and over 30 women. Players and teams can compete in as many categories as they wish. STATE NEWSSOUTHWEST SCHOOL TITLES AT GATTON A HUGE SUCCESSAs of this morning we had a total of 51 teams nominated for the South West School Titles at Gatton next week. Teams have entered from Tara, Stanthorpe and Dalby as well as Toowoomba, Gatton and Ipswich, making this the largest Queensland regional school Futsal tournament. The draw will be on the website by the end of the week.
Could all schools please note that we will be taking the VIKINGS LONGBOAT shop out for the carnival. Indoor Shoes, bals and other equipment will be for sale.
Unfortunately in the same week we have had to cancel the Central Schools competition in Rockhampton, due to lack of numbers. As they say ? you win some you lose some ? but we will certainly be working next year to make the Rockhampton competition work.
INTRODUCTION TO FUTSAL TOURNAMENT FOR GIRLSWith soccer fixtures for girls and women ending on the 3rd August in Brisbane , we have decided to run an introductory six week competition for those who maybe considering playing this season but aren?t sure. Games will be played Sundays at Mt Gravatt on the southside and Albany Creek on the northside , with competing age groups 12 girls, 14 girls, 16 girls and open women ( all grades). A small fee of $10 per player will be asked for to cover insurance , plus weekly match fees. Game times will be 20 minutes each way.
At the end of the six weeks the $10 payment will be credited against the registration fee of those wishing to continue.
Enquiries re the COME?N?TRY competition can be directed to ANDREW CRUTCHER on
vikings@qldfutsal.com.au or 32199444
WELCOME TO NEW CLUBSA welcome to Redlands Futsal Club, who affiliated with us last week . Redlands is based at The Victoria Point YMCA , a two court stadium. If you are interested in playing there contact MICHELLE MCKEAN on 32077322.
REGIONAL TITLES MOST POPULAR TOURNAMENTOn our website over the last two months we have been running a poll as to which is the most popular tournament during the year. Not surprisingly, the regional club titles held at the Gold Coast each Easter came out ahead with a third of the vote, followed by the state school titles.
GOLD COAST MEETINGThe Gold Coast meeting on Saturday although short on numbers, was successful in that we had a number of people put their hand up to help. The three courts at Tallebudgera are coming along well, and will definitely be ready before the end of August. If you are interested in helping get the new club going or playing, contact Melanie on mobile 0421556137.
"LETS GET IPSWICH GOING AGAIN" MEETINGSimilar to the Gold Coast meeting, we will be holding a meeting of all the old Ipswich Futsal people to get the Ipswich Futsal Club going again. As is now common knowledge, Paul Wadsworth will be returning to Ipswich to get his old region back to its old strength. The meeting will be 3.00 pm on the 4th August at Redbank Plains. To RSVP or for further enquiries ring Paul on 0409 618092.
KINDY FUTSALWe have had a number of enquiries in regards to Kindy Futsal starting again at Mt Gravatt and Logan. Both will be restarting the week of the 1st September to fit in with the new Futsal season. Kindy is for children 3 to 8 and is all about fun, not competition.
Enquiries to your centre administrator or put your name down with Inger on 32199444 or i.pryde@qldfutsal.com.au.
STATE LEAGUEThe full proposal for state league will be on the newsletter next week. Six clubs have verbally nominated to field all seven age groups, so we are looking at five weekend rounds ( two games a round) and a full one day round robin tournament. More next week

HUMOURWell I got it wrong last week . West Ham?s only Australian supporter STEVE TIPLER, informs me that PAULO DI CANIO was a SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY player when he pushed over a referee, not from WEST HAM. My apologies to all HAMMERS fans as Steve promises me no West Ham player would assault a ref. As an apology, I will put in another Hammers question this week.
ANSWERS TO LAST WEEK?S QUESTIONSWhere did the USA defeat England 1-0 in the World Cup.
BELO HORIZONTE-BRAZIL.
( I bet even Mauricio didn?t know).
Which England manager played for Manchester United ?.
WALTER WINTERBOTTOM
THIS WEEKS QUESTIONS 1. The first Futsal club started in Queensland in 1980?where was it?
2. When you have a penalty shootout in Futsal, who are the five players eligible to take the kicks and who qualifies to take the next one if after the first five the teams are equal?
3. THE WEST HAM QUESTION. Most English supporters know that West Ham
had three players in the 1966 World Cup side?Bobby Moore, Geoff Hurst and Martin Peters. However, name the LAST British club each of them played for?
JOKE ONEAfter their success at the World Cup, Arsenal decide to sign one of the South African strikers. They fly him to London and put him in?digs? (accommodation) with one of their regular stars Robert Pires. It becomes a very cold winter and snows everywhere. Our South African decides to drive to the shop in driving snow and asks Robert what should he do if stuck in snow.
? Simple ? says Robert ? wait for the snow plough to come along and follow it? he?ll lead you out . ?
Well our intrepid visitor of course gets snowed in but luckily the snow plough comes by and as instructed he gets in behind and follows. Forty five minutes later, the driver of the plough suddenly stops, gets out and walks to the car.
? What do you think your doing following me ? he yells at our star.
The South African then explains the instructions Robert had given him.
? Well I suppose that?s okay ? mutters the snow plough driver ? I?ve finished clearing this shopping centre carpark now, so follow me over to the railway station carpark and we can do that one together as well !?
JOKE TWOWell this isn?t a regular joke, but if you get the chance go and see the movie BEND IT LIKE BECKHAM. All the Futsal office staff and their partners went to see it last week and it?s excellent. It has actually nothing to do with BECKHAM but if you?ve ever coached a women?s soccer team (which I?m doing this season) you?ll relate to it totally, and realize that your not alone with your problems.
THAT?S ALL FOLKS?..SEE YOU NEXT WEEK
