CONCAFACIsaac Sasso Sasso retires from FIFA Executive Committee6.2.07 - After 17 years of dedicated service, Isaac Sasso Sasso of Costa Rica has resigned as a CONCACAF representative on the FIFA Executive Committee. Sasso, who was also serving as the Deputy Chairman of FIFA’s Futsal and Beach Soccer Committee, submitted his written resignation to the President of CONCACAF Jack Warner, citing reasons of ill health.
Commenting on Sasso’s decision, President Warner said, “Mere words alone cannot express the debt of gratitude the world of football owes to Isaac Sasso. Through his many years of tireless service to the game, Sasso has made an enormous contribution to the sport he loves at every level from his own club in Costa Rica all the way up to his years of service on the FIFA Executive Committee. Everyone who has worked with him will join me in wishing him continued happiness during his retirement.”
Sasso’s retirement leaves vacant his seat on the FIFA Executive Committee and, in accordance with FIFA Statutes, CONCACAF has acted to appoint a replacement to serve for the remainder of Sasso’s term, which concludes at end of the FIFA Congress, in Zurich, in May 2007.
In a ballot of the CONCACAF Executive Committee it was unanimously decided that CONCACAF Vice President (Central America Zone), Rafael Salguero of Guatemala, should serve the remainder of Sasso’s term on FIFA’s Executive Committee.
In light of his appointment to the FIFA role, Salguero has retired from his post as Vice President of CONCACAF (Central Zone) bringing about two further changes to CONCACAF’s own Executive Committee, also decided by a unanimous decision of the committee.
Alfredo Hawit, of Honduras, who had been a Member of the CONCACAF Executive (from Central Zone), has been elevated to the post of CONCACAF Vice President (Central Zone) and will serve the remainder of Rafael Salguero’s term, to 2009, in that capacity.
Replacing Hawit as Member of the CONCACAF Executive Committee (Central Zone) is Ariel Alvarado, President of the Federación Panameña de Fútbol, who will serve the remainder of the existing term (to May 2007).
