Welsh National Futsal Championships

The Deeside Dragons were unbeaten in the first ever Welsh Futsal National Championships held in NEWI sports centre, Wrexham, North Wales on Sunday 25th February 2007. Glamorgan Academicals, Madocs FC and Futsal Conwy all finished levels on points, highlighting just how well matched these teams were.

The level of Futsal shown throughout the day showed that Wales is developing fast in the international game of Futsal. Pending the Football Association of Wales’ permission, it is hoped that Deeside Dragons will now represent Wales for the first time in the next European Futsal Club championships.

The event was attended by several dignitaries from the Football Association Wales and the North East Wales Football Association, as well as the Football Association Wales Trust and Mr Brian Roberts the Co-ordinator for Futsal from North East Wales Football Association.
(Among the dignitaries present were: Mr Keith Spencer - Chairman NEWFA; Mr John Hughes – Chairman of Welfare, Coaching and Development and NEWFA Councillor; Mr Brian Roberts - Administration Officer/Futsal Co-ordinator NEWFA; Mr Ken Hughes – Secretary NEWFA and FAW Council Member, Mr Keith Bryan - FAW Representative and NEWFA Councillor; Mr Gareth Lloyd - NEWFA Council Member; Mr Cliff Evans - Referees Officer NEWFA and NEWFA Council member; Mr Gerald Davies - Referees Officer, NEWFA and ex Wrexham footballers Wayne Phillips, Lee Jones and Steve Watkin all now of NEWI Cefn Druids).

The next Futsal event in Wales is The Welsh Futsal Cup which will take place on Sunday the 18th of March at NEWI sports centre, Wrexham, North Wales from 10.00am till 6.00pm.
