Greater Fall River League expanding

STAFF REPORT

The Greater Fall River Futsal League is growing by leaps and bounds, as evidenced by its recent addition of a youth futsal program. Futsal is an indoor version of soccer, in which two teams of five players do battle with no walls or nets, only lines.
The league now offers, for the very first time, a youth competitive futsal program known as "Hilltopper Futsal" that caters to U10 to U19 teams that are looking for an offseason regiment to improve their foot and passing skills.
The program runs for seven weeks, with six regular-season games and playoffs for the top four teams. All games are held at the BMC Durfee Field House at Durfee High School in Fall River. Teams from all over SouthCoast, and from Rhode Island to Cape Cod, compete in this league.
One of those teams is the Pride FC U14 girls, coached by George Gomes and Moses Pereira. They recently opened their season with a 6-3 win over Dartmouth. Braile Friere, Britteny Martins, Shelby Friedland and Jillian Silva Jones all scored for Pride in the win. Assisting on the defensive side were Stephanie Dean, Alysha Gilbert and Allison Pereira.
Becca Pereira and Danielle Gauvin shared netminder duties, both holding back the Dartmouth attack.
