The UEFA Futsal Cup semi-final draw will be made on Saturday - after a meeting of two of the contenders in an eagerly-awaited Spanish league encounter.
Semi-final drawFinal four hosts El Pozo Murcia FS, the current Spanish champions, take on UEFA Futsal Cup holders Boomerang Interviú at 15:00 local time at the Palacio de Deporte, the venue for the revamped European event from 26-28 April. Also involved in the draw, which will immediately follow the league match, are MFK Dinamo Moskva, who lost the 2005/06 final to Boomerang, and the side that defeated the Russian team to win the trophy the year before, Action 21 Charleroi, - the only non-Spanish winners in the first five editions of the UEFA Futsal Cup.
Spanish title raceBoomerang hold the upper hand in the División de Honor after a 3-2 defeat of Benicarló Onda Urbana on Wednesday opened up a three-point lead over Murcia, the winners of the first two UEFA Futsal Cups, who were defeated 7-6 at Playas de Castellón FS. That result took Castellón into eighth, the last place that will carry a championship play-off berth after the regular season ends in May. In the previous fixture between Boomerang and Murcia in October, the Spanish title-holders drew 3-3 in Madrid. They could also meet again in a week's time as both are involved, along with Castellón, in the Spanish Futsal Cup final eight event in Lugo which runs from next Thursday to Sunday.
Dinamo on topAs for the other UEFA Futsal Cup contenders, Dinamo lead the Russian league, which is not decided by play-offs, by two points with two games in hand, while Charleroi, who were briefly wound up this summer and have seen their squad weakened by financial problems, are third in Belgium - eleven points behind Forcom Antwerpen Elite. That championship is decided by a four-team play-off competition in May.
