CONCACAF.comCosta Rica & Guatemala progress to 2007 Pan American Games8.3.07 - Costa Rica progressed to the inaugural Futsal Tournament at the 2007 Pan American Games in Brazil after defeating Panama by a score of 7:4 in the CONCACAF Triangular Qualifier at the Domo Polideportivo in Guatemala City, Guatemala on Thursday evening. The elimination of Panama also secured the hosts, Guatemala a place in the Pan American Games that runs from 13-29 July.
Carlos Chavez, Julio Méndez and Junior Rodríguez scored two goals each to lead Costa Rica (1-0-0, 3 Points) to the victory over Panama (0-2-0, 0 Points) on Thursday.
The triangular concludes on Friday at the Domo Polideportivo when Guatemala greets Costa Rica at 19:00.
Costa Rica and Guatemala join CONCACAF Futsal Champion and Runner-up, USA and Cuba, respectively, along with four CONMEBOL squads at the eight-team tournament at the 2007 Pan American Games.
