New Straits TimesFootball: No payment for Under-23 playersChristopher Raj
ONCE the richest national association in the country, the FA of Malaysia now stands accused of not paying its players allowances.
The national Under-23 players have not been paid their daily allowance of RM50 for January and February.
The team play Japan in their second 2008 Olympics qualifier at Petaling Jaya Stadium on Wednesday.
"As much as we want to play, this problem is on my mind, I am supposed to send some money back to the family, as my mother needs it for her medical treatment," said a player who declined to be named
"I am hoping that my State coach will play me in the Super League, so that I can get some bonuses and settle the medical bills."
While this is a problem the Under-23 team do not need ahead of the tie against Japan, having lost their opener to Syria 3-1 two weeks ago,
the national futsal players are also in a similar predicament as their daily allowance of RM30 has not been paid. Most of the players train full- time. FAM general secretary Datuk Seri Dr Ibrahim Saad could not be contacted for comments.
