People's Daily OnlineMyanmar ready to compete in AFF Futsal Tournament Myanmar futsal team has made preparations to participate in the upcoming ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Futsal Tournament due to start later this month, according to the Myanmar Football Federation (MFF) Wednesday.
Seven member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and Australia will take part in the AFF Futsal Tournament slated for March 26-31 in Bangkok, Thailand, the MFF said.
The Myanmar team will be in group (B) along with the host and two times champion Thailand, Vietnam and Brunei, while last year's runner-up Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Australia will be in group (A), it said.
Nearly two-year-old the Myanmar futsal team, have been trained by a Japanese coach since February this year, comprises 13 players of whom four had played in the last edition, it added.
The Myanmar futsal team took part in the ASEAN futsal competition for the first time in May 2006. Myanmar thrashed Brunei 7-2 and lost to Thailand 22-3 in the group-stage, lost 5-3 to Indonesia in the semi-final and secured third place by defeating Cambodia 10-2 in the tournament.
Meanwhile, the Myanmar futsal team along with the China's Macao and the Cambodian teams withdrew from the qualifier matches for the AFC Futsal Cup scheduled on March 1-5 in Chinese Taipei.
