UEFA.com European futsal rivals up for cupThursday, 15 March 2007UEFA Futsal Cup semi-final opponents Boomerang Interviú and El Pozo Murcia FS will look to boost morale ahead of their European showdown as they take part in the Spanish Futsal Cup final eight event over the next four days.
Boomerang recordBoomerang and Murcia, who drew 3-3 on Saturday in the league and were then paired in the UEFA Futsal Cup semi-finals, to be played on 26 April, are in Lugo for this week's tournament. Lobelle de Santiago FS beat Boomerang on penalties in last year's final to lift the trophy, ending the Madrid side's bid for a third straight victory. In all Boomerang have won the cup a record five times, while Murcia claimed it in 1995 and 2003.
Boomerang against CastellónThe quarter-finals start this evening with a classic encounter between the teams who have won four of the five UEFA Futsal Cup editions between them - Boomerang and Playas de Castellón FS. Hosts Azkar Lugo FS then take on Carnicer Torrejón FS and on Friday, Murcia play Lobelle and MRA Navarra FS meet Polaris World Cartagena. The semi-finals are on Saturday and the decider the following day.
Julio cautionHis team may be top of the league but Boomerang captain Julio is taking nothing for granted in the knockout tournament. "We're used to being the favourites but in this type of competition there's never a clear favourite," he said. "The league is a regular competition but the cup is an intense one and it's often the case that the teams who struggle in the league do well in the cup."
