Thanhnien NewsVietnam routed at 5th SEA Futsal Championship Futsal Vietnam’s national team was hammered 13-3 by host Thailand in the opener of the fifth Southeast Asian Futsal Championship, at the Hua Mak sports complex in Bangkok.
The tournament has all eight teams attending to compete through to the end of this month.
After the match, Coach Nguyen Van Long admitted that Vietnam is not yet fully prepared to compete internationally in the sport, which has yet to take off in the country.
“Meanwhile, Thailand is a country with well-developed indoor football, with the sport even introduced into the local school curriculum,” said the coach.
“The Thais are a strong candidate for this edition’s champion,” Long admitted.

Vietnam Net BridgeSEA Futsal 2007: Vietnam loses first match VietNamNet Bridge - Vietnam’s futsal team yielded 3-13 to Thailand, the champion for four consecutive years, at the 2007 Southeast Asia Futsal Tournament.
Thailand was superior in this match with two hat-tricks by captain Panuwat Janta and player Anucha Munjaren.
Vietnam’s three goals were recorded by Bao Quan and Ba Tuan.
Thailand is now temporarily atop group B, followed by Myanmar and Vietnam.
In Group A, Indonesia defeated the Philippines while Australia surpassed Malaysia in the two matches on the opening day, March 26.

Group A: Indonesia – the Philippines: 1-0; Malaysia - Australia: 2-3
Group B: Vietnam - Thailand: 3-13; Myanmar - Brunei: 10-3
