Glen Alpine brothers so slick
27Mar07

FUTSAL is the sport that Brazilian soccer greats such as Ronaldinho and Ronaldo fine-tuned their skills.

The five-a-side indoor version is slick and snappy and Glen Alpine brothers Harrison and Blair Brown are proving they are up among Australia's best young players.

The siblings recently won Australian titles at the recent national futsal championships in Canberra.

Harrison, 13, won his third consecutive title with the NSW Thunders 12 years team. Blair, 10, won his first Australian title captaining the NSW Thunder 10 years side.

Despite his youth, it was Blair's second year in the national team.

"They absolutely love the sport," mother Jan said. "It certainly complements their outdoor game."

Harrison's state team lost only one game during the national championships, although he found the competition a higher standard than previous years. NSW defeated Victoria 5-3 in the final, with Harrison scoring his team's last two goals in ensure victory.

Blair's team was similarly dominating.

The NSW boys drew their first game, then went through the qualifying rounds undefeated.

They downed Victoria 2-1 in the decider. Blair, not to be outdone by his older brother, scored the winning goal.

"It was a good do for us," Jan Brown said.

The Brown brothers also paired up with the Sydney City Eagles 12 years team in the NSW Premier Futsal League to take out the premiership.

It was a special moment for the Brown family, the brothers playing under coach and dad David Brown for the team's inaugural trophy.
