Malaysia need just a draw to advance

Wednesday March 28, 2007

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia kept their semi-final hopes alive in the fifth Asean Football Federation (AFF) futsal tournament when they hammered the Philippines 12-3 in a Group A match at the Hua Mak Indoor Stadium in Bangkok yesterday.

Malaysia, who were beaten 2-3 by Australia on Monday, need only a draw against Indonesia today.

Australia, who are in the tournament on invitation, have qualified for the semi-finals after chalking up their second straight win – beating Indonesia 5-3.

Both Malaysia and Indonesia have three points each from their victories over the Philippines.

Four-time winners Thailand and Myanmar are on course for the semi-final slots from Group B after strong wins in their opening matches.

The Thais thrashed Vietnam 10-3 while Myanmar humbled Brunei by the same margin.
