UEFA.comBoomerang clinch another titleBoomerang Interviú underlined their dominance in the world of futsal with victory in the Intercontinental Cup yesterday, a perfect warm-up for next month's UEFA Futsal Cup final four.
Third in a rowThe Spanish side were 3-1 winners against Malwee of Brazil in the deciding game of the global competition, played in the Portuguese town of Portimao. It was the third successive Intercontinental success for Boomerang, with the previous two titles also coming at the expense of Malwee. After an 8-1 win against Nagoya Oceans of Japan, Boomerang continued with a 2-2 draw against another Brazilian side, Carlos Barbosa. Following a 6-1 win over Portuguese contenders SL Benfica, the Spaniards went on to beat Sporting Clube de Portugal 3-1 in the semi-finals. The cup is the second title Boomerang have won in three weeks, after they lifted their sixth Spanish Cup last month.
Julio joyfulXande’s goal 22 minutes into the final yesterday put Malwee in the lead but Boomerang’s Marquinho levelled matters for the Spanish side just 12 seconds later and within five minutes Neto and Schumacher had both found the net to put the game beyond the South American club's reach. Boomerang captain Julio, 34, said: "I think we’ve played a serious tournament against tough sides and on top of that, our best game was the final because we could have scored more goals. It’s true we’ve beaten them in the three finals, but this time they could have lost by a greater margin if we had been luckier in our chances."
Final fourAs well as domestic league matters, Boomerang can look forward to meeting Spanish rivals ElPozo Murcia FS in the UEFA Futsal Cup semi-finals on 26 April, the same day as Action 21 Charleroi of Belgium take on MFK Dinamo Moskva in the other last-four tie. Murcia are hosting the four-team event with the final to be played on 28 April. Boomerang, the defending European champions, are bidding for their third UEFA Futsal Cup success after triumphs in 2004 and 2006.
