Sunshine Coast DailyCoast futsal team blitzes rivals12.04.2007TO say the Sunshine Coast under-10 futsal team won the 2007 state titles at Acacia last weekend is an understatement. They completely dominated the championships.
Seven games for seven wins and a goal difference of +75.
But it wasn’t just the scores the Coast boys won their games by that was impressive, it was how they won them. According to coach Steve Enticknap, the boys displayed a skill level far beyond their years.
"A lot of people commented on the skill of the boys," Enticknap said.
"They had a lot of skill compared to most other teams," Enticknap said.
"I have been coaching some of the boys for a couple of years now and I focus a lot on individual skill.
"We do a lot of work on learning to control the ball, being confident on the ball and trying to take a player on. Those things really stood out over the weekend. A lot of 10-year-olds get the ball and kick it away, but we controlled the ball very well."
The Coast side has been undefeated for two years.
"They won the competition in the under-9s last year and they also went through undefeated," Enticknap said. "They had a lot to live up to, but they were brilliant. I was so proud of them."
A Queensland side will be named in a few weeks and Enticknap believes five or six of his eight-player squad are in line for selection.
Sunshine Coast team: Jed Zanos, Josh Keenan, James Enticknap, Ellis Berry, Zak Nevin-Fendley, Ryan Mawditt, Jacob Connelly, Connor Ward.
