Gloucester Advocate18 April 2007 Futsal kicks off in May Futsal is five-a-side indoor soccer. It is one of the fastest growing sports, is played in over 100 countries and boasts millions of players around the world.
The special feature of the game is the unique property of the smaller ball, which has a low rebound. The game develops close individual ball skills as the court is small and players are forced into limited space and option scenarios. Games are fast-paced and exciting. The sport is a great skill developer, with quick reflexes, fast thinking, and pinpoint passing required.
If you would like to become one of the 30,000 registered Futsal players around Australia, a local competition is commencing on May 2 at the Gloucester recreation centre running through until September.
This is the second competition being run after a very successful six team 2006 winter comp. Enter individually and be placed in a team, or enter a team of seven players. The Rec Centre have purchased the goals with team shirts provided. The only extra equipment needed is shinpads.
Males and females over the age of 14 are welcome. Teams will be chosen Sunday April 21 with a registration/trial night on May 2 to start the comp off. Teams will appear in the Gloucester Advocate on April 25 and May 2.
Contact Phillip Schulz (65581098) or Tad at the Pool/Rec Centre if you wish to play.
