Perth Youth Futsal 4th Annual Open Futsal Tournament

Apr 17 2007

The PYF players were in tournament action again as the 4th Annual Perth Youth Futsal Open Tournament got underway last weekend.

With the event gaining popularity, as witnessed by the entry of G S Asprou of Cyprus and the record number of entries from English teams, including U16 English National Futsal champions Barsa Juniors, it was another memorable event for the Perth players.

In the 9-11 group, North Muirton overcame tough opposition in the form of English side The Academy UK from Essex as well as local rivals Letham Tangerines to claim the title.

In the 12-14 group, PYF Samba Allstars were pipped to the title by GRS Red Devils from Hull.

In a close encounter, the PYF team missed a host of chances and were hit by two sucker punches to lose a game they should have won.

Along the way to finishing second they won all their other games, overcoming Cypriot side GP Asprou 5-0 and also beating two other English sides.

In the 15-18 group, PYF team Bobos Barmy Army, containing many players from the PYF Allstars squad, made light work of English U16 national champions Barsa Juniors in a one-sided 13-2 victory on their way to clinching the title.

AC Tartan also managed to overcome Barsa Juniors on their way to finishing second and consigning the English champions to a third place finish.

The event was a huge success and, with all the visiting teams planning to return next year, along with already confirmed entries from Belgium and Australia.

The PYF Annual Open Tournament is fast becoming one of the major Youth Futsal events around the world.

The next Perth Youth Futsal session will be held on Friday, April 27 from 7-9pm.
