Charleroi show semi-final form

Thursday, 19 April 2007

Action 21 Charleroi laid down a marker for their UEFA Futsal Cup semi-final against MFK Dinamo Moskva a week today in Murcia as they secured victory at the same stage of the Belgian Cup.

Charleroi triumph
Charleroi, aiming to win the domestic trophy for the fourth year running, won 5-1 at second division MFC Real Châtelineau to go through to the 12 May final against Cristal Noir MB Morlanwelz or Brussels United Futsal. Without key men Liliu and André Vanderlei, both injury doubts for the European fiinals from 26-28 April, Charleroi led 3-0 at the break through Karim Chaibai, Zico and Saad Salhi, and increased their advantage thanks to Jhonny Van Melkebeke and Valentin Dujacquier before Adnan El Hafsi pulled one back. Charleroi, top of the Belgian league, play GDL Futsal Châtelet on Friday in their last fixture before travelling to Murcia.

Dinamo pipped
Their opponents in Spain, Dinamo, had a less enjoyable experience this weekend as they were pipped in the Russian Cup final. Having lost the away game of the two-match series 7-3 to MFK VIZ-Sinara Ekaterinburg, Dinamo won the home return 4-3 to force extra time. In the additional ten minutes they led through Tatu but the visitors equalised, ensuring a penalty shoot-out which Dinamo lost 5-4. Dinamo coach Yuri Rudnev said: "We were able to command the match. We attacked and played without our leader, Joan. We lost on penalty kicks, but not in the game." Trailing VIZ-Sinara by five points in the league, Dinamo now have two weekend derbies at MFK Dina Moskva.

Spanish sides win
The other UEFA Futsal Cup semi-final pairs hosts ElPozo Murcia FS with holders and Spanish rivals Boomerang Interviú, and both are in winning ways. Boomerang triumphed 6-2 at bottom side RC Celta de Vigo FS to remain one point ahead of Polaris World Cartagena FS, confirming their place in the eight-team championship play-off. Murcia are three points further back after a comfortable 9-2 defeat of Martorell FS. On Saturday, Boomerang welcome FC Barcelona and Murcia visit PSG Móstoles.
